I have not written much poetry in my life and truly do not consider myself a poet. Many people think that writing poetry and writing songs are so similar that they could be interchangeable – that a poet can write songs or a songwriter can write poetry. This is definitely not true. Even a lyricist who just writes the words for songs is not a poet in my opinion. The basic tools are the same (i.e., words) but the skills needed to create the final product differ. There may be people with both the skill to write songs and poetry but being a great songwriter does not mean that person would be a great poet and vice versa. That being said, I offer some of my poetry here for your perusal.
