This Day

About this Song

This song was written with three verses to represent the three-way relationship in a marriage between a man, a woman and the Lord God. Initially, I envisioned it to be sung as a duet between a man and woman who were getting married. The first verse was the man singing to his bride, the second verse was the bride singing to her husband-to-be and the third verse was the couple singing to the Lord. The song emphasizes the melding of lives into one and the resulting life that they live is focused on the Lord and the expectation of His return.

Scripture

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

Genesis 2:24 (NASB)

Upon this day I give my life to share with you forever
For you today become my wife, you see
For all my life I’ll love you as I love nobody else
And today we start our new eternity

To have and to hold, together a new life we’ll be
To love and to cherish ‘til one day our Jesus we’ll see

Upon this day I give my all that we may grow together
For we today become as one, you see
For I know we’ve seen the Son rise and in His light we see
The dawning of our new eternity

To have and to hold, together a new song we’ll sing
To love and to cherish ‘til Jesus returns mighty king

Upon this day we give our love to share with You forever
For You, our Lord, become our life, You see
For all our life we’ll love You as we love nobody else
And today we start our new eternity

To have and to hold, together a new life we’ll be
To love and to cherish, come quickly we’re waiting for Thee
To have and to hold, together a new song we’ll sing
To love and to cherish, come quickly we’re waiting
Yes, quickly we’re praying
Oh, Jesus, return mighty king
