Lord of All

About this song

I wrote most of this song while driving. At the time I was working as a software engineer for IBM in a consulting group that did manufacturing automation. There was a small manufacturing company in Conroe, TX that wanted us to come and take a look at their operations and make recommendations on how to automate and make it more efficient. I was given the task of visiting them for that purpose and so I hopped in my van and drove over from Austin to meet with them. As I often do while driving, I sang as I traveled. Somewhere along the way the idea for this song came to me and I started composing.

Song Concept: When God first created man back in Genesis, He gave man dominion (lordship) over the earth and all creatures in it. When man disobeyed God, he fell from his position and was cursed to be separated from God and to toil the earth in order to survive. Satan then took over and the earth was his domain. He offered to give it to Jesus in Matthew 4:8-9 if Jesus would bow down and worship him and thus acknowledge Satan as lord. When Satan could not convince Jesus to become subject to him, he sought to destroy Him. Little did he know that by killing Jesus, Satan destroyed himself and gave over the lordship of the earth to Jesus. By birth, Jesus was the only begotten Son of God. In His death, He paid the price to redeem man from the curse of separation from God. In His resurrection, He is Lord of all.

This song was written as a worship song that starts out singing about Jesus and His position as Lord of all and then turns to singing to Jesus so as to give Him all glory for what He has done.

Scripture

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” .

Romans 10:9-13

The Lyrics

He is Lord of all
He is Lord of all
He is Lord of all
We’ve been ransomed from the fall
On His name we call
He is Lord of all

Almighty God a lowly man became
Guiltless He was but He chose to carry all our blame
With His final breath He bought vict’ry over death
And became the Lord of all

He is Lord of all
He is Lord of all
He is Lord of all
We’ve been ransomed from the fall
On His name we call
He is Lord of all

Upon the cross He gave His life for me
He broke the chains that bound my soul, He set me free
And now He reigns on high and every tongue shall cry
That He is Lord of all

He is Lord of all
He is Lord of all
He is Lord of all
We’ve been ransomed from the fall
On His name we call
He is Lord of all
We’ve been ransomed from the fall
On His name we call
He is Lord of all

And You are Lord of all
Jesus, You are Lord of all
You are Lord of all
I’ve been ransomed from the fall
On Your name I call
You are Lord of all
I’ve been ransomed from the fall
On Your name I call
You are Lord of all
