True Love’s Forever

About this song

My parents’ Sunday School teacher (Buster Shelton) came up to me one day at church and said that he had written lyrics for a song about my Mom and Dad and wondered if I might consider helping him with it and putting it to music. I took it and adjusted a few words (to fit the song meter of the music that I came up with) and added a few more words to make it complete and thus this song was born. My parents were married on September 16, 1950, so they have just recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. The recording here is of me and my sister, Linda, singing the song.

He was just a boy, she was just a girl
But when he saw her she became his world.
Though they married young and though they had not much
They had each other and that was enough.

True love’s forever like love from the Lord
Two hearts together joined in one accord
True love’s forever like love from the Lord
A man and a woman living by God’s Word

Their life together then, it had its ups and downs
Job changes, kids and moving town to town.
Whatever came their way, they faced it all as one.
They trusted in the Lord, His will be done.

True love’s forever like love from the Lord
Two hearts together joined in one accord
True love’s forever like love from the Lord
A man and a woman living by God’s Word

Through the years with joy and tears
They kept their solemn vow
To have and hold as they grew old
And it binds them even now, even now

The years have come and gone, his eyes do not see gray.
He sees a bride who takes his breath away.
The children that they raised, their church family, too
See true love in the life of these two.

True love’s forever like love from the Lord
Two hearts together joined in one accord
True love’s forever like love from the Lord
A man and a woman living by God’s Word

This man and woman living by God’s Word
