I Lift My Prayer

About this Song

The Southern gospel group that I sing in (Aire to the Throne) was asked to sing at the Austin Area Prayer and Praise Rally for the 2014 National Day of Prayer. We got together a few weeks beforehand to select the songs that we were going to sing but later I got to thinking that none of these songs were specifically about prayer and it seemed like we should sing something about prayer it being for the National Day of Prayer and all. So I sat down and came up with the chorus for a song but no verses to go with it. It wasn’t until a few days later, as I was in my car on the way to work, that I was inspired to write the verses based on the Lord’s Prayer. I then took the song to the other guys in Aire to the Throne and asked if they wanted to sing it and could learn it quickly because it was only 2 or 3 days until we were going to sing at the prayer rally. They all agreed that we should do it and all worked to develop their parts in the short time available. We sang it at the rally and were blessed to receive a standing ovation after we sang it. The version that you can listen to here is just me singing and not my group because we have not recorded it as yet as a group.

Scripture

“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’

Matthew 6:9-13 (NASB)

Our Father up in heaven above, hallowed be Your glorious name
Here on earth and up above Your will be done ever the same
Give us this day our daily bread, let me forgive as You forgive
Help from temptation to be led, away from evil let me live

I lift my prayer before Your throne
I come by right of blood atoned
I seek Your will and not my own
I lift my prayer before Your throne

Thus Jesus taught us how to pray and how to seek the Father’s face
All that I am before Him lay, I have no right but for His grace
I am not worthy on my own but Jesus paid the price for me
So boldly now before His throne I raise to God my every plea

I lift my prayer before Your throne
I come by right of blood atoned
I seek Your will and not my own
I lift my prayer before Your throne

I lift my prayer before Your throne
I come by right of blood atoned
I seek Your will and not my own
I lift my prayer before Your throne

(Modulate)
I lift my prayer before Your throne
I come by right of blood atoned
I seek Your will and not my own
I lift my prayer before Your throne

I seek Your will and not my own
I lift my prayer before Your throne
I lift my prayer before Your throne
I lift my prayer before Your throne
